The Service

Deck & Patio Cleaning

A deck is the easiest thing on your property to ruin with a pressure washer. Too much pressure on wood raises the grain, leaves permanent wand marks and turns a cleaning job into a sanding job.

Wood gets a cleaning solution and low pressure. The grey weathered layer and the mildew lift off while the grain stays intact, which matters if you plan to stain or seal afterward. A properly cleaned deck takes stain evenly. A chewed up one does not.

Pavers get cleaned at a pressure that will not strip the polymeric sand out of every joint. Composite decking gets treated gently, since the surface film is easy to damage and expensive to replace.

Around Winchester we see everything from decades old pressure treated decks on the county roads to composite and paver patios in the newer subdivisions. Each surface gets its own pressure and its own detergent, because what restores a paver patio would tear up a cedar deck.

How It Works

Four steps, no surprises

Check the surface

Wood age, board condition and any loose fasteners get noted before we start.

Apply the cleaner

A wood safe solution goes on and gets dwell time to release the grey layer and organic growth.

Clean at safe pressure

Pressure is matched to the material so the grain stays closed and joint sand stays put.

Rinse and neutralize

Everything gets rinsed down and the surface is left ready for stain or sealer if that is the plan.

Common Questions

Good to know

  • Can you clean my deck without damaging the wood?

Yes, and that is exactly the point of doing it our way. We lead with a cleaning solution and use only as much pressure as the boards can take, so you do not end up with fuzzy raised grain and wand marks.

  • How soon can I stain after cleaning?

Give the wood a couple of dry days to come down to moisture content. Staining wood that is still damp traps water under the finish and it will not hold. We will tell you what your boards need.

  • Will pressure washing my pavers wash out the sand?

It can, at full pressure, which is why we back off on pavers. Some sand loss is normal on any paver clean, and re sanding afterward is a good idea if the joints were already thin.

  • Do you clean composite decking?

Yes. Composite still grows mildew in shaded spots even though it does not rot. It needs a gentle approach because the surface film scratches easily, so it gets low pressure and the right cleaner.
